Carnatic Music with the Royal Marines

I was delighted to introduce Carnatic music and aspects of South Indian vocal tradition to musicians from the Royal Marines Band. The workshop explored the voice, rhythm, melody, improvisation and the distinctive approaches to listening and musical communication within Carnatic practice. Sharing these ideas with highly skilled musicians created a fascinating exchange between different musical traditions and opened up new ways of thinking about ensemble music.
